Five Signs Your Laptop Needs a Repair
Posted in :
Laptops rarely fail without warning. Most problems give you a few signs first, and catching them early can save your files, your time and often your money. Here are five to look out for.
1. It takes ages to start up
If your laptop used to be ready in seconds and now takes minutes, something has changed. It could be too many programs starting with Windows, a failing hard drive or even malware. A tune-up often makes a big difference.
2. It gets hot or the fan is always loud
Dust builds up inside laptops over time and blocks the airflow. If your laptop feels hot on your lap or the fan never seems to stop, it may be overheating, which can shorten its life.
3. The battery does not last
Batteries wear out. If yours drains in an hour, swells, or the laptop only works when plugged in, a replacement battery can give it a new lease of life.
4. Strange noises or freezing
Clicking sounds, freezing and the occasional blue screen can point to a failing drive. If you notice these, back up your important files straight away.
5. Pop-ups and unexpected changes
New toolbars, a different home page or adverts appearing on their own are common signs of unwanted software. These are worth dealing with quickly, as some can put your personal details at risk.
What to do next
Back up anything important, then get it checked. Many of these problems are quick to fix when caught early.
