Simple Ways to Improve Your Home Wi-Fi
Posted in :
Slow or unreliable Wi-Fi is frustrating, especially when you are working from home or streaming in the evening. Before spending money on new equipment, it is worth trying a few simple changes.
Move your router
Routers work best in an open, central spot, raised off the floor and away from thick walls, mirrors and large appliances. A router hidden in a cupboard or behind the TV will struggle to reach the rest of the house.
Restart it now and then
Turning your router off for a minute and back on again can clear up many slow-downs and dropped connections.
Check what is connected
Phones, tablets, smart speakers, TVs and doorbells all share the same connection. If lots of devices are busy at once, everything can feel slower.
Secure your network
Make sure your Wi-Fi has a strong password and that the router admin password is not the default one printed on the box. This keeps neighbours and strangers off your connection.
Consider extra coverage
In larger or older homes, a mesh system or access point can carry a strong signal to rooms the router cannot reach.
If you have tried these and things are still not right, we can find the cause and set up a reliable network for you.
